The della Gherardesca Family has very ancient roots and is linked in every way to the history ofTuscany. It is impossible, in just a few lines, to mention the many places, stories and events that relate to the lineage, but one thing is certain: its influence has been, and remains, extremely important from every viewpoint when looking at Tuscany.
Like a wide-angled lens that captures the view from Bolgheri to Castagneto Carducci and expands to take in important cities such as Pisa and Florence as well as the coast, della Gherardesca has always been synonymous with love of the land, unique tastes and the art of living throughout the centuries.
This bond, which is clearly exhibited in all its typical ‘Tuscan-ness’ at Castello di Castagneto Carducci, is both a synthesis and an expression of those values and customs that have made these lands renowned all over the world. Landscapes that the della Gherardesca Family has always helped to preserve, bring to life and often re-imagine. And it has done so also through wine.
It was precisely the della Gherardesca Family that initiated the first forms of rational viticulture as early as the 1600s, shaping the areas of Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci with a sublimely beautiful tapestry of vineyards interspersed with woods. The development of viticulture in Bolgheri is inextricably intertwined with that of the Family and, simultaneously, of certain wines and brands that are inscribing the history of these areas.
And it is in honor of this bond that a collection of signature della Gherardesca wines is now being created.
The project stems from an encounter that occurred between Gaddo della Gherardesca, a descendant of the family and owner of the Castle at Castagneto Carducci, a man with an enterprising and contemporary outlook, and Prosit Group.
The collection is made up of wines capable of telling the story of Tuscany from different perspectives, with names inspired by the family members and by the intuitive decisions and history of the della Gherardesca Family. These products are entrusted to the close-knit team of Prosit Group winemakers, who will seek year in, year out, to express their specific qualities and characteristics with continuity both in approach and style.
This is a collection with a strong character and a contemporary personality: wines steeped in tradition already projected into the future, with a touch of the irreverence and grace that are so typical of the della Gherardesca Family.
